Mei Ling

Here are some pictures of my new puppy, Mei Ling (nicknamed Mei Mei). My aunt saw her at the vet's office and told my mom about her, and she asked me if I'd rather have her or a Chihuahua, and so I said I'd take her.

My mom said that either the vet or my aunt (I'm not sure which) thought she was a Shar Pei, but when I saw her, I thought, "That's not a Shar Pei." Shar Pei are much more wrinkly, and have shorter, more curly tails. I think she looks like an Olde English Bulldogge, but I'm not sure. I sent an e-mail to my old boss, from the previous town I lived in, because she used to raise Bulldogges, so I'm hoping she could tell me if she is one or not. One of my cousins said they thought she might be a Pitbull, or at least part Pitbull, which wouldn't bother me much, but I know there's a lot of prejudice against them, due to the people who have trained them to be attack dogs and stuff, so I'm hoping she's not a Pit.

Anywho, she hardly ever whines, and she's fairly calm, although she does her fair share of chewing on me and my stuff. The only downside so far is that she seems to have a weak ankle. Her right foreleg is wobbly when she stands, and she limps on it just slightly, walking on her toes. We may need to get her a brace just to make it a bit more sturdy. Poor Mei Mei.

Pounce! (Inuyasha oneshot)

This is just a short, silly Inuyasha oneshot I wrote a while back.

Pounce!

His prey wouldn’t stand a chance. He grinned at the thought. Now he just needed to find where his prey was hiding. . . .

He peered around the shrine grounds, searching carefully. His ears twitched suddenly and his eyes lit on a second-story window; his grin grew. Of course.

He leaped easily into the tree and through the open window, his grin now replaced with a smug smile. He had been wanting to do this for so long, and now seemed like the perfect time. His vision focused on the figure sleeping on the bed and he twitched his ears, listening for any sign of movement in the house--but there was none.

Perfect.

He approached the bed slowly and cautiously, alert to any sign of the occupant’s waking, but the figure on the bed was out like a light. Choking back a sudden urge to laugh--rather maniacally--he tensed and lunged.

The bed’s occupant let out a startled cry as they were catapulted into the air by their assailant. Landing back on the mattress with a soft thump, they ran for their life as the attacker gave chase. Out the bedroom door and down the stairs the figure sprinted, another close behind and gaining fast.

‘Round and ‘round the living room the two zipped, one fearfully, the other gleefully. Laughter rang throughout the room, punctuated by loud, unhappy yells from the victim.

“Inuyasha!”

He froze. Embarrassment at being caught flooded him as he turned, shame-faced, to face the owner of the voice.

“What on earth are you doing?” Kagome wanted to know, hands on her hips. Her mother and little brother stood behind her, blank looks plastered on their faces, both holding grocery bags. Another pair of bags sat on the floor at Kagome’s feet. Kagome’s eye took on a sudden tic.

“Were you just chasing my cat?”

The frightened Buyo made a dash for the open door behind Kagome and her family. Inuyasha watched him go, cringing, ears pressed flat against his skull.

“Maybe,” he said cautiously. He stood tall suddenly and crossed his arms over his chest in typical Inuyasha fashion. “What’s it to ya?”

Her mother and Souta quickly backed away from the fuming girl as she began to visibly shake.

“Inuyasha . . .” she growled, “Osuwari!

The hanyou let out a strangled yell and hit the floor with a loud thump. Souta and Mrs. Higurashi simply shook their heads and walked into the kitchen to put up the groceries.

New litter

As the title suggests, I have a new litter of kittens. There are four this time, but my aunt and I split the litter, so that we're each only caring for two at a time. There is a male orange tabby, a male brown tabby, a female brown tabby, and -- everyone's favorite -- a female black calico.

We haven't really named this batch yet, except that we're mostly in agreement that the black calico should be called Harlequin, because her face is split down the middle, black and white, like a harlequin mask.

I was worried for a while, because both of the males got sick. We had unknowingly fed them some rotten milk formula, but fortunately I realised it soon enough that they didn't die, but were just horribly sick for a few days. The brown tabby recovered fairly quickly, but the orange one was sick for a few days longer. He's only just gotten better, but it seems to me that he's made a full recovery now.

Haven't taken any pictures yet. I'll get some and post them later, like last time.
I got to play my cousin's new Wii today (His brother bought it for him, to which almost everyone's response was: "What did you blackmail him with?") We played Brawl for a while, which was pretty fun, but after a while it gets tiresome, playing with my cousin. He's insanely good at it, and I'm really bad at it, and I'm also a sore loser, so I eventually just had to make myself quit playing before I did something I'd regret.

No news on the Chihuahua puppies yet. I don't know if the new litter has been born yet or not.

Photos of True

True and Torte, playing on my chair.

True scratching an itch.
(Mostly says hi!)

Possibly irritated at me for making him sit still and have his picture taken. Either that, or he's just tired. So hard to tell. *laughs*

Side shot of True, nothin' spectacular....

My favorite picture of True, sitting in my chair.

Photos of Torte

Torte in my hand...

...climbing the side of my chair...

...falling asleep in my lap...
(Yes, that is an icky flea on her chest. x_x)

...squished in between the cushions on my chair...
(How can you sleep like that, Tort? *laughs*)

...and lastly, trying to climb the inside of my leg.
(And yeah, this picture was taken upside down.)

Photos of Trey

Just one picture of Trey, sadly, and not a very good one, at that. I missed her ears...and her nose is all dirty. *laughs* It also doesn't show off her signature markings, the three spots on her back. But you have to admit...she has very cute eyes. *smiles*

Photos of Mostly

Kinda too close, and blurry, but oh well. Shows off her facial markings pretty well, I think.

That's actually the back of my leg she's climbing... I had to almost literally bend over backwards to take this photo. *laughs*

Photos of Teeny

Teeny, sitting in the dog's bed. (for some reason the camera tinted the picture red...)

*peers around the corner* Whuzzat?

Sad stuffs today, I'm afraid. . . .

Took the kittens back to the vet today. They all found homes, so I didn't end up getting to keep one, though I really wanted to keep True. . . . And we were just kinda in and out really fast -- dropped them off and left -- so I didn't even really get a chance to say bye to them, which leaves me feeling pretty cruddy. . . . Oh well. *sighs*

Also, a few days ago we received an orange tabby kitten that was probably only a week old, if that. It died yesterday. It wasn't doing well to begin with, so it just couldn't recover, I guess. . . .

On the other hand, I have some more cheerful news: I'm getting a puppy!

See, normally I don't like dogs much, but my mom's co-worker has a step-daughter who raises Chihuahuas, and I've been wanting one for years. Well, this co-worker asked my mom if she wanted a Chihuahua puppy, because his step-daughter had a litter of four. My mom told me about it, and made it quite clear that I could have one if I wanted one -- but only if they were giving them away, and not selling them, since we don't have that kind of money. Well, this was before we found out she raises them, which obviously means she sells them, and it also turned out that all four puppies were spoken for.

However, the step-daughter said that they're expecting another litter of puppies any day now, and because my aunt gave them a Chihuahua before, I can have one of the puppies for free. So yay! I'm getting a puppy! Now if only I can keep from going crazy with impatience as I wait the eight weeks for them to grow old enough to leave their mother. . . . *laughs*

Lastly, I did get some pictures of the kittens; I just need to get them uploaded. I'll post them later, when I'm not feeling quite so lethargic. . . .

Trip to Japan?

My half-brother -- who reads as much manga and watches as much anime as I do, if not more -- called me a while back to ask me if I would be interested in going to Japan with him, and whether I would be able to save up the thousand-some-odd dollars for the plane ticket. Well, seeing as I am currently unemployed, I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to scrape the money together, so I was kinda disappointed about it. Also, he was talking about going with a friend -- a guy friend -- and my parents did not like that idea at all.

He called me again today to say that he might be able to get two tickets for six hundred dollars apiece, and wanted to know if I could save up that much. I've been doing odd jobs for my aunts and they've been paying me quite generously, so I think I may be able to save up that much if I work really hard. He also said that the aforementioned friend would not be going, as they apparently did something to upset him -- something they had done before, so my half-brother decided that was the last straw. So I'm really excited about it now, because there seems to be a much greater chance that I'll be able to go.

However, he said he's not sure if he will be able to get those tickets or not, and I also asked him if he could get three tickets, since I'm hoping our brother can come, but he said he'd have to ask the person he's getting the tickets from. I'd like for my big brother to come with us if at all possible, but I'd hate for him to have to save up to pay full price when we're getting bargain tickets.

I have no idea when the trip might be, and no idea where we'd go when we got there, but I'm still really looking forward to it, and hoping our plans don't fizzle as they have done so many times in the past.

First post

Hn, where to begin. . . .

Spent several hours working on a picture for the header, but it's still not quite right, and I couldn't get a properly working transparent background, so I finally just gave up and made the picture's background black. Oh well. On to business.

I'm bottle-feeding an orphaned litter of kittens at the moment. My aunt sometimes takes care of orphaned animals for her vet, but she's been sick with pneumonia, so she passed the kittens on to me. She said it's probably going to be the first of many litters, as it's the season for them. They have to go back to the vet's office when they're old enough to eat solid foods. We believe they're about three weeks old right now. Their eyes are open and they're wobbling around unsteadily on spindly little legs and ballooned bellies.

My cat, Rook, is terrified of the kittens. Whenever he's in my room he sits and stares at their box (which is covered, so it's not like he can even see them) with wide, unblinking eyes, as if it's some sort of UFO that landed on his turf, and he's waiting for the "evil aliens" to jump out and try to suck out his brains.

My sister named the kittens within a few hours of our receiving them, which is not really a good idea, because it tends to make you more attached to them, and we have to give them back. But of course that won't affect my sister, since she doesn't live with us and doesn't have to take care of them and have time to get attached to them. Oh well.

There are five kittens: a calico, a tortoiseshell, and three that are black and white. All but one of them are female, one of the black and white ones is a male.

First we have the kitten of many names (there's one in every litter we've cared for) My sister named the tortoiseshell Tortilla (yes, my sister is weird), but lately I have been calling her Miss Adventure (or Misadventure), because she's quite adventurous. She keeps trying to escape from the box and go exploring. My brother, who says she is his favourite, calls her Torte, because he says it sounds sorta like "tortoise." She eats with the least fuss, and is usually the first to start crying and trying to climb out of the box when she's hungry.

Next is Mostly. My sister named her that because she is "mostly" black with very few white markings. She has white toes, a white spot on her nose, and a white stripe down her chest and tummy. She's usually the second one to start crying for food. My sister's favourite.

Then there's Tres. The three black spots on her back make her look like a domino, so my uncle said we had to name her after the "tres domino." But we've also begun calling her Domino, because it's sounds more feminine than Tres. Just about the most sedate of the litter, she rarely makes a fuss and is usually the first to fall asleep after eating. She's also the one most often stomped on by her siblings.

Then there's the calico, Tina, who is the only one my sister didn't name. My mother named her Tina, because she's "teeny." Um, can't really think of anything particularly remarkable about her. . . .

And finally, my favourite, True, AKA Troubadour, the boy. My sister wanted to name one Troubadour, and I wanted to name him True, so we agreed that True would be short Troubadour. I don't know why she wanted to name one Troubadour, but I had a reason for calling him True. My best friend online uses an avatar of a black and white kitten, and this kitten looks almost exactly like that picture. I didn't want to use my friend's current nickname, because that would be weird and confusing, so I used the nickname I used to call him: True. He's the hardest to feed, because he won't open his mouth when you try to put the bottle in it.

I intend to take some photos of them, but right now my digital camera is deader than a doornail, so I don't know when it'll happen.
